One of my clients asked me once “what makes us human?” To lighten the mood, I said “selecting all boxes with traffic lights”. The client was more confused than before. To further explain the analogy, I said “well people are so addicted to the technology that they now need to prove the AI that they are not robot, hence select the boxes with traffic lights”.
Some of the reasons that makes us human is to feel connection not just within ourselves but with others too. Since the evolution, humans have been sociable animals. Our ability to build and form interpersonal bonds is natural and driven by biology. One may feel disconnected when that social and emotional connection is being lost. And out of many reasons, one of the big reasons that people in this age feels disconnected is due to the usage of social media and technology. The internet has managed to bring people together in certain ways while also tearing them apart in others.
The issue with depending only on technology and social media for socialisation is that these methods don’t foster or stimulate the same social processes as face-to-face interactions.
Your brain might not be receiving the same signals from social interactions if you are not with someone who uplifts and revitalises you.
This is not to argue that friends or family who live far away are less important or valued than others. They’re not. Being able to communicate with people worldwide is fantastic. Simply said, engaging with people in person triggers different social responses in your brain than does social media or other technology.
You may feel more alone, unhappy, and alone if you don’t have in-person interactions and relationships. As a result, one ought to make an effort to establish some face-to-face connections.
Furthermore, if you struggle to maintain positive relationships because you are socially awkward, allow me to assist you and bring about a shift in your life that will make you feel more connected and inspired.
